The Carson Pirie Scott, Bergner's, and Boston Store chains, along with Younkers and Herberger's nameplates, eventually operated as Saks' Northern Department Store Group (NDSG), based in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. It was a great time when retail was run for the sake of the customer and not the sake of a promo.

store, they don't even have working electric buzzer on their entrance. These were sold in 1988, as was the County Seat clothing chain. At first, I looked at the address on Bing Maps Aerial, but it appears to be gone.
It's was an entire division.In the 70's they did an international theme week at the state st store where every floor had a specialty food served that could be sampled as you shopped.

Later, I found a picture.A store could never get away with a hanging sign, such as is shown in the picture, in this day and age of regulations.
Anyone have pics, or rember the name of that Restaurant. In 1989, Carson Pirie Scott & Co. was acquired by P.A. The Peoria store was also started by the company.
