Why Pests Love Summer

Summer Pest Control

Every summer seems to bring on the same plagues of pests, each with its personal mission targeting humans. While there are some common causes, dealing with these pests can be aggravating and sometimes they require some special care in order to alleviate the suffering they cause.

Fortunately, because they do come in cycles it is somewhat easy to deal with them, especially if you take some time and prepare for their coming. While it is rarely fun to deal with the usual summertime visitors, it can nonetheless be relatively easy to deal with them. I recently sat down with the owner of a local pest control company in Queensland, No One Pest Control Brisbane and discussed reasons why pests love summer time.

Why Summers Sees So Many Pests

When it comes down to it, there are why pests like summer:

  • Temperature
  • Sunlight
  • Food Sources
  • Moisture
  • Life Cycles

Temperature

Most insects do not do well during the winter; the cold tends to slow them down making them easy prey for yl rolex day date 118205 mens 36mm grey dial president bracelet oyster bracelet birds and other predators. While extreme heat can be lethal to them, they do perfectly well during the hotter months of the year. This makes summer the best possible season for insects.

Light

Insects also tend to depend on their senses of smell and sight. Nocturnal pests tend to be attracted to bright lights and even diurnal pests land based on colors. This makes the increased amount of sunlight during summer a great thing for insects, especially those that rely on sight in order to determine where they can eat.

Food

Food sources are just easier to find during the summer. With all of the flowers in bloom as well as food rotting, it is just easier to find food. When people leave food out it thus becomes a welcome target for anything that smells the food, and people leave out a lot of food during the summer, whether it is at a picnic or on a counter. Regardless of its location insects can find food anywhere due to their enhanced sense of smell; putting it in a breeze does not really help.

Moisture

Moisture may not seem that important to an order that does not really drink or gains its water through its food, but a lot of insects rely on moisture for part of their life cycle; mosquitoes, for example, require a stable source of water as part of their early life cycle. If they cannot find the moisture they need outside then they will likely head indoors to find what they need.

Life Cycles

Naturally, most insects hatch in spring and mature by summer to best take rolex replica pearlmaster advantage of the summer hours. It does not help that some need to be out of the small creeks and ponds that they were born in or face death by asphyxiation. Summer is just when you will find a lot of insects enjoying what little life they have.

Dealing With Them

There are a number of ways to deal with pests. The simplest way of keeping insects out is to find a substance that works for you and spread it throughout the area where you want to keep pests out. Some of the best substances are:

  • DEET or picaridin
  • Oil of Lemon Eucalyptus
  • Oil of Citronella
  • Catnip Oil
  • IR3535

DEET and picaridin are pretty much the default. They can be used safely and almost universally. Oil of lemon eucalyptus, or OLE, is a fragrant way to keep pests at bay; it contains just enough DEET to keep them away but helps keep the area smelling good. Citronella is available in a wide number of different forms and is arguably one of the best things for campers. Catnip oil and IR3535 also work, as well as a number of other herbal oils.

Prepare and Enjoy

This should make it easier to deal with your unwanted summertime visitors, especially if you take time to pest-proof your home. The good news/bad news is that you know that they are coming so it is easy to prepare for them. Just make sure that you have whatever you need on hand when they come flying and crawling back into your life and you should be able to deal with the pests and possibly even gain yourself a temporary respite from them. Just remember to:

  • Keep stocked (make sure you have everything on hand)
  • Be Prepared (know what you need to do)
  • Keep food in containers and where it needs to be

Conclusion

Do that and your summers should be a lot more fun. If you have any questions please feel free to drop me a line or comment below. Thanks for reading.
